§ 01 / Hero

Greycell Technical · Owner-managed UK specialist electrical consultancies · Est. 2025

I believe the engineering judgement that took 30 years to build deserves a system that outlives the engineer who built it. Ian Griffiths · Founder, Greycell Technical

Stop being the bottleneckon every quote, proposal, and senior-engineering decision.

We help owner-managed UK specialist electrical consultancies turn your senior judgement into a system the firm operates without you.

§ 02 / Qualifier

Who this is for

This is built for one specific kind of firm.

Our work is narrow on purpose. If you don't fit, we'll tell you in the first call and refer you on.

This is for you if you run

  • An owner-managed UK specialist electrical consultancy
  • £1m to £10m turnover
  • 10 to 50 staff
  • Zero to two senior chartered engineers carrying every certificate, every bid, every conflict meeting (or no one chartered yet, and you feel it)
  • Growth gated by senior judgement, not by demand

This is not for you if

  • You run a SaaS or product business with no senior-engineering bottleneck
  • You are not in HV electrical, lightning protection, earthing, T&I, or DC electrical
  • You want a generic AI consultant selling "transformation" workshops
  • You want a chatbot or a tool recommendation
  • You are over 50 staff (talk to us about Hyperscale HV separately)
§ 03 / Outcomes

What we ship to

Five owner-managers. Five outcomes. Pick the one that sounds like you.

Same 12-month engagement. Different headline outcome depending on which owner-manager you are.

The Bottleneck

Saturdays gone two years

Your weekends back permanently. Your firm grows faster than before.

Saturday · 11:42

The Margin

T&I work commoditising

You charge premium pricing because what you ship cannot be commoditised.

The Lost-Bid

Lost a £180k framework to a larger competitor

You win frameworks against competitors twice your size.

The Continuity

Two seniors retiring in 24 months

Your firm survives the senior-engineer retirement cliff with no loss of judgement.

The Exit

Firm runs on tribal knowledge

Your firm sells at 4 to 5 times revenue, not 0.5 to 1 times, because the senior judgement is in the system.

§ 3.5 / Anchor

What we hear

What owner-managers tell us in the first call.

"Every senior decision still flows through me."
"The firm slows when I'm out for a week."
"AI is everywhere, but I can't see what to do with it from where I'm sitting."

The usual fix

Hire another senior chartered engineer. £95,000 to £120,000 a year fully loaded (base salary plus car, health, pension). 18 months to recruit. If they leave, the judgement walks out the door with them.

Source · 2025-26 UK senior chartered electrical engineer salary bandsEngineers.scot citing Jobted (senior 10-20 yrs, £91k mean) · Matchtech UK Energy Salary Guide 2025 (HV T&D £55-85k typical) · IET 2024 Skills & Demand in Industry Survey · Hays UK Salary Guide 2026 · National Grid / SSE / Scottish Power published bands. What Headroom does instead

Turns the senior judgement you already have into a system the firm runs without you. £2,100 a month for the first three engagements, over a twelve-month build. Yours to keep.

Flow 5

A chartered engineer maps the five jobs your firm runs on, in two hours.

Every firm runs on the same five jobs: Marketing, Sales, Money, Operations, and Customer Support. In one live two-hour session, a chartered engineer works through all five with you and ranks them: what to automate, what stays human, and what to leave well alone.

You walk away with a written map and the one move to make first. No guesswork, no boil-the-ocean project, no 40-slide deck you never open.

The £497 fee comes off the cost of what you do next.

Run by Ian Griffiths, CEng, 30 years in HV power systems and on the BS 7430 earthing committee. The same judgement that signs off the work decides where AI belongs in it.

Book Flow 5

Bigger firm? When one room cannot see every workflow, we go deeper with the Bottleneck Audit: five to eight structured interviews across the firm, written up in two weeks (£1,500-£2,500). Best for firms toward 50 staff.

Headroom

A full year, side by side, until the firm runs without you

Twelve months working next to your team. We turn your senior judgement, the calls only you can make, into a system the firm runs without you. AI does the first pass. The chartered engineer corrects it on the page. Your client sees both.

A senior chartered engineer costs around £95,000 to £120,000 a year and takes about 18 months to find. Headroom is roughly a quarter of that, and you keep everything we build.

Prefer to start with three months? Begin with a 90-day Pilot at £2,100/mo, then carry on into the full build.

§ 05.5 / The lens

When to automate

Not everything should be automated.

Two questions place any task on the map. How often does it happen? And what does it cost if it goes wrong?

01 High freq · Low risk

Automate First

Happens every day, cheap to get wrong. These wins stack up fastest.

e.g. invoice chasing · meeting notes · inbox sorting

02 High freq · High risk

Automate the Legwork

AI does the prep. A person checks it and signs it off before it goes anywhere.

e.g. quote drafts · client emails · report first drafts

04 Low freq · Low impact

Leave It Alone

Hardly ever happens and barely matters. Not worth building.

e.g. one-off admin · rare paperwork · annual renewals

03 Low freq · High risk

Keep It Human

Rare, and costly if it goes wrong. Senior judgement territory. AI assists at most.

e.g. pricing a complex job · hiring · design sign-off

The rule AI takes the repeatable work. People keep the judgement calls.
§ 06 / Method

How the work flows

Custom agent first pass. Engineer override. Client sees both.

No black box. The chartered-engineer corrections sit on the page next to the AI draft, signed and dated. The reasoning is the credibility surface.

Step 01 · Custom agent first pass

Draft on the standards.

The agent reads the brief, pulls the relevant standards, and produces a working draft of the quote, the calculation, or the section. Fast. Searchable. Cited.

Avg 14 minutes per section
Step 02 · Engineer override

Correct on the page.

The chartered engineer reviews, annotates, and signs every override on the same document. Where standards differ, the engineer names which one applies and why. Visible to the client.

Avg 22 minutes per section
Step 03 · Client final

Both layers shipped.

The deliverable shows the AI draft and the engineer corrections side by side. The client sees the working, not just the answer. Replaces a normal HV bid response that hides the reasoning under the bonnet.

§ 07 / Bonuses

What's in the box with Headroom

Four things you keep, even after the engagement ends.

Bonus 1

Your First Quote, On Us

We take one of your real quotes, the one stuck on your desk right now, and finish it for you in week 2. No charge. You get the finished quote out the door, your client gets a fast answer, and you see the method working on a real piece of your business inside the first month.

Bonus 2

The Quarterly Score for Your Fellow Directors

Every three months, we write a one-page score for the people who own and run the firm with you. Two numbers, no more. Senior-engineer hours saved this quarter. What the firm would be worth at sale today versus three years from now. We walk your board through it for an hour, in normal money words.

Bonus 3

Plain-English Notes on Every Standard You Use

A written set of notes, in normal English, covering every major HV earthing and lightning protection standard your firm uses (EN 50522, EN 62305, IEEE 80, ENA TS 41-24, the rest). Written by the engineer who chairs a UK earthing standards working group. Yours to keep, even if you walk at month 12.

Bonus 4

A Front-Row Seat to How We Run Greycell

A login to our live AI-tracker. You watch the 23 AI assistants we run inside our own firm, what they do, when they break, when they save us time. Most consultants tell you they use AI. We let you watch ours actually working.

§ 08 / Risk

Our guarantees

Three guarantees, running together.

A 12-month engagement at director level needs more than a one-line refund clause. Three guarantees stack to cover three different time-windows of risk.

Months 1 to 3

Guarantee 1 · The 90-Day No-Hard-Feelings

Any time in the first 90 days, you can walk. Full refund of the unused balance. No questions, no exit interview, no notice period.

Months 1 to 12

Guarantee 2 · The Milestone Promise

Three concrete things happen on three specific dates, or you get money back.

  • Day 14your first AI-augmented quote goes out the door, signed off by you
  • Month 6AI scaffolding produces at least 50% of first-draft senior-grade output
  • Month 12a structured senior-knowledge agent kit handed over to you, yours forever

Miss any milestone, money back, pro-rated.

Month 12

Guarantee 3 · The Quote-Without-You Promise

By month 12, your firm will ship at least one quote, proposal, or major engineering decision without you personally signing it off at senior grade. If it doesn't happen, refund of the final quarter.

If you refuse to delegate at any point in the 12 months, the third guarantee voids. Otherwise every owner-manager could trigger the refund by simply refusing to engage with the work.

§ 14 / Principles

The principle, and the proof

Judge us on the evidence.

We would rather show you the working than tell you a story. Embedding senior judgement into systems is early work that few in this field have taken on, so we let the evidence carry it: the standards we help write, the hyperscale design we deliver now, and the agents you can watch running. Come in at the start, and be the first success story we point to.

If your business requires your presence, you don't have a business, you have a job. And it's the worst job in the world because you're working for a lunatic.

Michael Gerber

The E-Myth Revisited

The proof

A seat on a British Standards earthing committee

The engineer doing the override pass chairs a UK earthing and lightning protection working group and contributes to British Standards drafting. Standards fluency at native level, not a sales claim.

The proof

£1.5m of live hyperscale design, and 23 agents you can watch

Currently delivering £1.5m a year of design services into four major hyperscale operators, and running 23 production AI agents inside our own firm on a public read-only tracker.

Want to become our next success story?

We can sign three owner-managers at £2,100 a month, a one-year engagement. After those three, the rate goes up to £3,750 a month.

§ 15 / FAQ

FAQ

What owner-managers actually ask.

Should I use ChatGPT or Claude?
The four differences worth caring about are laid out in full on this one-pager. For a business, the feature fight between the two chatbots is the wrong place to start. Once you are on a governed, commercial deployment, those four differences matter for a specialist firm. First, a workspace, not a chat window: Claude can work directly on the folders on your machine, where ChatGPT's access to your local files is more constrained, so you lose the copy-and-paste tax on every job. Second, automation that does the work rather than reminding you to: Claude's scheduled tasks fire a full working session with access to your files and tools, where ChatGPT's scheduled Tasks are more limited, so one produces the report while you sleep and the other just nudges you. Third, projects that scale past the window: Claude Projects take large files with no limit on how many, and pull in the right parts automatically, so your firm's standards, past jobs and templates can sit behind the model without being trimmed to fit. Fourth, data governance you can point to: on the commercial tier you get a written no-training position and controlled retention, so when a client or an acquirer asks where your data goes, you have an answer on paper. Our own view, and we are not neutral, is that Claude on the commercial tier is the stronger bet. The bigger win, whichever you pick, is getting the deployment governed so your hard-won know-how does not leak into a model your competitors might use. Book a 30-minute Discovery Call.
When should I consider automation and AI?
Two questions decide it: how often a task happens, and what it costs if it goes wrong. We map every task on a simple frequency-against-risk grid, so the daily low-risk work gets automated first, the high-stakes work stays gated or human, and the rare trivial work is left alone. See When to automate for the full lens.
Will you read my HV earthing or lightning protection model?
Yes. The engineer doing the override pass on every Headroom deliverable sits on a British Standards earthing committee, chairs an industry earthing and lightning protection working group, and contributes to UK pipeline standards. Reading the working stack at native level is the baseline, not the upsell.
How does the override-tracing actually work in practice?
A custom AI agent does the first-pass technical drafting. The chartered engineer then reviews, annotates, and signs every override on the page itself. The deliverable shows both layers, the agent's first pass and the engineer's corrections, side by side, visible to the client. The engineer's reasoning is not hidden under the bonnet. It is the credibility surface. A normal HV bid response shows only the final text. Ours shows the working.
What if my fellow directors block this?
Bonus 2 (the Quarterly Score for Your Fellow Directors) is built for exactly this. Every three months we write a one-page score in plain money language, walk your board through it, and frame the engagement as asset formation rather than expense. If your directors will not approve £2,100 to £3,750 a month against a documented reduction in senior bottleneck and a documented uplift in firm value at sale, the conversation we need to have is different from the one we're having now.
What happens at month 12 when the engagement ends?
You keep the senior-knowledge agent kit, the standards notes, the quarterly board scores, and the audit trail of every override produced during the year. The system runs in your firm without us. We are hired to make ourselves unnecessary, not to embed permanently.
Are you delivering this for any other firms in our space?
Greycell can run three Headroom engagements concurrently. The first three owner-managers to sign get the early rate. We will be transparent in your Discovery Call about which engagements are running and where, subject to NDA on specifics. We do not take two firms in direct head-to-head competition at the same time.
Can you produce work I can put in front of a hyperscale procurement reviewer?
Yes. The lead engineer is currently delivering £1.5m a year of design services into four major hyperscale data-centre operators and is in transition to take a Prime Client Engineer seat at one of the world's largest colocation operators. The override-quality bar inside Headroom is set to that audience, not a generic procurement audience.
What's the £3,750/month standard rate after the first three owner-managers sign?
Once three owner-managers have signed at the early rate of around £2,100 a month, the rate steps up to around £3,750 a month for everyone after. Same engagement, same deliverables, same guarantees. The step-up is not arbitrary: by then we will have published case studies from the first three engagements, which the standard rate is anchored against.
What if my firm has no current delayed quote?
You do not need one. Flow 5, the two-hour survey, maps the five jobs your firm runs on without any live quote to anchor on, so it is the right first step either way. If you do have a quote stuck on your desk, bring it to a Discovery Call and we will work through it with you. For larger firms, the Bottleneck Audit goes deeper with five to eight interviews across the firm.
§ 16 / Decide
3 owner-manager slots open

Ready to talk?

Three owner-managers. Three slots. Then the rate steps up.

Headroom is a year-long engagement, working alongside you, that helps owner-managed UK specialist electrical consultancies turn your senior judgement into a system the firm runs without you. The first three firms to sign get the early rate of around £2,100 a month. From the fourth firm onward, the standard rate of around £3,750 a month applies. Either rate includes four bonuses you keep, a three-layer guarantee, and the senior-knowledge kit yours forever. We can run three engagements concurrently while delivering at the override-quality bar the offer requires.
